Portsmouth Officers responded to a bloody braw on Robinson Avenue, a neighbor holds a suspect at gunpoint, someone called the cops on a woman for doing a crossword puzzle, and a man punches a kid in the throat. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Bloody Brawl on Robinson Avenue

Just before 8 am, officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a Robinson Avenue PMHA apartment. Witnesses said a man and woman had been fighting for the past 5 hours and beating on the walls.

Police detained the woman on a bench warrant and took her into custody.

At the same time, officers responded to a separate disturbance in another apartment and took another woman into custody.

Meanwhile at Speedway

Not one, but two people, refused to leave Speedway shortly after 8:30 am. An employee told police a woman with long red hair had been there for 4 long hours.

There was also a man in a hoodie carrying a Walmart bag who liked it a little too well at the gas station as well. The man was gone when officers arrived, but they did tell the woman to leave and stay away.

An officer caught up with the man a little bit later and also told him to stay off the property.

At 11:30 pm that evening, officers were called back for a report of another woman refusing to leave Speedway. Police told her to get stepping and she did.

Heart Attack At SSU

EMS and police responded to a report of an unresponsive man in a hallway at Massie Hall at Shawnee State University. SSU police performed CPR on the man.

Under The Influence

Threatened by Grandpa

A woman contacted officers at 12:19 pm to report her children’s grandfather was sending harassing text messages.

Police offered advice on how to file a protective order.

Kids in Danger?

A caller claimed a man was beating children in a house on Vinton Avenue. The caller said you could hear the kids screaming.

When officers arrived at the address, they didn’t see anyone.

Unwanted Visitor

PMHA contacted police just before 2 pm to report a previously evicted man tearing up an apartment. The man said he was just getting his property from the patio.

He said his ex was in a mental hospital. Police could not contact her to verify the property was his. Instead, they warned him he could be arrested if it turned out he took anything that didn’t belong to him, he could be arrested.

Child Hit in Throat By Man

A worried Grandma called officers at 6 pm to report a 40-year-old man hit her juvenile grandson in the throat.

The incident allegedly happened while two youngsters were involved in a fistfight. The man in question took the boy’s shoe. When the boy tried to get it back, the man hit him in the throat.

The woman did not want to file a complaint but she did want the incident noted.

Retriever Attack

A caller reported a dog attack on 29th Street at 7:25 pm. She said they were walking a dog down the street when a Golden Retriever attacked them. Police took information for a report.

At 8:32 pm, a Robinson Avenue caller asked an officer to help her retrieve her little dog. She said it was being guarded by a pit bull. The officer suggested it would be best for the pit bull’s owner to retrieve the dog since the officer might have to hurt the pit bull.

Hit and Run

Police offered assistance to the Sheriff’s Office and New Boston Police after a man hit an apartment in New Boston with his vehicle.

He fled the scene and ditched the car of Milldale Road. A witness watched him run into a home. Police cited the man, contacted the Ohio State Patrol, and towed the vehicle.

Woman Holds Suspicious Man at Gunpoint

A Grant Street resident caught a suspicious person on their roof at 10:23 pm. The guy then jumped to the neighbor’s roof.

However, the lady next door held the guy at gunpoint until police arrived. Officers took him into custody.
