An area deputy is doing his part to help keep impaired drivers off the local highways.

Greenup County Sheriff’s Deputy Brett Ritchie has been honored by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet with the Governor’s Award for DUI Enforcement. Additionally, Deputy Ritchie was recognized as an All-Star.

The award is present to officers from 175 agencies across the Commonwealth for having the most DUI arrests within their agency. There are six divisions, determined by the number of officers on the force and special divisions for Kentucky State Police and the Department of Fish and Wildlife. Greenup County is in Division 2, consisting of agencies with between 11 and 25 officers.

The winners each receive a plaque and the top three winners from each division get the Highway Safety All-Star Award, which consists of a commemorative Louisville Slugger baseball bat.
