Gun Flashed At Ambulance Crew

Bellomy

Police said a Portsmouth teenager pointed a gun at an ambulance crew on Wednesday. Now he’s in the Scioto County Jail on gun charges.

Here’s what police say happened. Officers were called to the Oasis Carry Out on 17th Street at 7:30 pm. The caller said someone in a maroon Chevy pointed a gun at an ambulance crew.

The Search

According to witnesses, there were four people in the vehicle and the suspect looked young. Officers Amy Glockner and Corey Fisher responded to the call. The vehicle was gone by the time police got to the scene. The ambulance crew told police the vehicle had headed east on 17th Street.

An officer spotted the car as it turned north onto Thomas Avenue. They stopped the car at 25th and Thomas. In the vehicle were two women (one of the women was driving) and two men.

The suspects were detained while the police searched the car.

The Stop

One of the men was a guy who has been at the center of multiple calls to Wayne Hills in recent weeks. There have been allegations that he brandished weapons and that an out-of-town hit squad was searching for him. On at least one occasion, police said they searched the complex but could not find him. However, he’s not the guy that got arrested.

The guy who got in trouble for this incident is Jonathan Bellomy. Bellomy, 18, claimed to be homeless. Here’s what police found during the search:

Additionally, he told officers there was a handgun under the left rear passenger seat. Officer Taylor retrieved a Glock Model 17 9 mm. Bellomy told police that he’d purchased the weapon at the Minford KwiK Stop.

The Arrest

Members of the ambulance crew positively identified Bellomy as the guy with the gun.  However, they said the suspect actually pointed the weapon at a 17th Street apartment but put it away when he spotted the ambulance.

Officer Glocker took Bellomy down to the Portsmouth Police Department for fingerprints. Police transported him to the jail. They released the driver and other passengers, including the guy officers were searching high and low for just a few days before.

Bellomy is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling a firearm.
