A hotel on US 23 contacted deputies at 2:20 pm to report finding a gun in a guest’s room. They asked deputies to run a check on the weapon.
The guest was scheduled to check out of the room but had not. Housekeeping went to his room to see what was happening and discovered the gun.
The weapon was not listed as stolen, and the man’s truck was still in the parking lot. Dispatch checked to see if the man was in the hospital or jail, and he was not. They said it was likely the man was still at work for the day.
Housekeeping put his belongings back where they found them and locked the room. Deputies told the hotel to have the man call them if he had any questions.
