Gun or Laser? Neighborhood Dog Dispute Sparks Police Response

What started as a loose dog wandering into a neighbor's yard quickly escalated into a frightening confrontation when a woman reported having what she believed was a gun pointed at her. Deputies responded after receiving reports of a neighborhood dispute that possibly involved a firearm. When officers arrived, the caller said she had been outside watering flowers when one of her dogs wandered into a neighboring yard. According to her statement, she walked over to retrieve the dog while the neighbor yelled at her from his porch. As she was leaving with the dog, she claimed she saw a green laser pointed at her legs and heard the neighbor threaten to shoot both her and the dog if they didn't leave the property. The incident happened in the South Point area. The woman told deputies she returned home with the dog before going back to the neighboring residence in an attempt to discuss the situation with another family member. She said no one answered the door, but the neighbor later came outside. According to her statement, she asked him directly whether he had pointed a gun at her. She alleged he replied that he had before going back inside. Deputies then spoke with the neighbor, who gave a very different version of events. He told officers he had been outside for nearly an hour when he noticed the dogs in his yard. According to the report, he claimed the animals were growling, snarling, and acting aggressively enough that he climbed onto the hood of his mother's vehicle because he feared they might attack him. He admitted yelling for the woman to retrieve her dogs but denied ever pointing a firearm at her. Instead, he showed deputies a handheld green laser pointer, telling them that was what she had seen. He said he pointed the laser because he was frightened and wanted the dogs off his property. After speaking with both parties, deputies determined the incident did not amount to a criminal offense. Investigators advised the woman to keep her dogs confined and avoid entering the neighboring property in the future. The neighbor was instructed not to make threats or point laser devices at people and to contact law enforcement if similar problems occur again. No charges were filed, and the case was documented as an informational report.
