Gun Reported Near Playground

Officers responded to a report of a gun near a playground and investigated a report of a sister under the influence busting in her brother’s door. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Briefing.

4-Wheelin’ After Midnight

At 12:06 am, an 8th Street caller reported people riding 4-wheelers on the street. The caller said the vehicles were sliding around. Police found the late-night 4-wheelers at 7th and Campbell and suggested it was time to call it a night.

Just after 5 pm, police stopped another 4-wheeler riding on 17th and Thomas with a passenger on the back. They advised the driver to park it.

Stop Sign Down

Just after 2 am, a Fifth Street caller reported the driver of an SUV took out a stop sign and then left the area.

Police located the driver on Front Street and issued a ticket to the driver for failure to control and driving without a license.

Unwelcome Shopper

Officers answered a call to the Dollar General on Gallia at 8:34 am. Employees said a man refused to leave the store when they asked.

Officers spoke to the man, warned him about criminal, trespassing, and he left voluntarily.

Identity Theft

A man stopped into the Police Station at 10:17 am to report that someone got the electricity turned on in his name.

Under The Influence

Just before noon, a 6th Street caller reported that his sister was high on drugs and had busted in his door. He discovered her inside his home when he woke up.  An officer located her in the alley and took her to jail.

Officers investigated a suspicious vehicle near Christ Community Church at 11:06 am. The folks in the car appeared impaired and officers impounded a small amount of marijuana. They arranged to rides home for the people in the car.

Kendall Avenue Confidential

Officers located a suspect with a warrant from Adult Parole at the Royal Inn at 2:27 pm and took the person into custody.

Threatened with a Gun

Just before 9 pm, police received a report of an incident with a gun on Wayne Avenue. A man in a truck allegedly pulled a gun on another in the gravel lot across from the playground.

Officers located the vehicle. However, the owner of the vehicle refused to allow police to search it. Officers observed no weapons visible in the truck.

Harassed by a Loud Exhaust?

A Grant Street resident made an unusual harassment complaint at 10:27 pm. She complained that a man harassed her and her husband over a vehicle noise complaint.

She said he drives a truck with a loud exhaust by their home and it keeps waking their baby. When they asked him to keep the noise down, he said he would “Beat their ass.”
