Gunshots Cause Chaos at Portsmouth Bar
A report of gunshots caused chaos at a Portsmouth Bar and a crappy teen gave laxatives to two little boys. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
First Responders To The Rescue
- Just after midnight, first responders came to the aid of a man lying in the parking lot of Cornerstone United Methodist on Offnere Street. Officers said he was suffering from a medical issue. The Portsmouth Fire Department treated him for his injuries.
- Just before 1 am, officers were alerted to a boat that was stranded and out of gas on the Ohio River between The Grant and Carl Perkins Bridges. A rescue boat was immediately deployed to help and by 1:30 am, the boat was out of the water.
- Just before 2 pm, a caller discovered a man lying bleeding in the alley behind an 18th Street home. The man had fallen and struck his head. Portsmouth Fire Department medics transported him to SOMC.
- Officers responded to a report of a 75-year-old man that no one had heard from in a week. They discovered the Summit Street resident lying in urine on the floor. He was confused and possibly injured. EMS took him to the hospital.
Gunshots Cause Chaos at JJ’s Shenanigans
Reports of gunshots caused panic at JJ’s Shenanigans at 1:43 am. A caller told police someone was shooting inside the bar. Further, the caller said the bar had locked the door and they were unsure who was shooting or if anyone was injured.
Officers arriving on the scene didn’t find any victims but they did find lots of different stories. Some folks said someone pulled out a gun but didn’t shoot while others said shots were fired.
Police said they saw no shell casings. The incident seemed to have started with an argument but all the involved parties had left. Officers found no evidence to indicate a shooting.
Summit Street Woman Threatened With Gun
At 2:35 am, a Summit Street woman called police and said a man drove down her street and threatened her. The woman told officers he pulled out a gun and also threatened to damage the tires on her vehicle.
She identified the man and said he was driving an orange SUV. By the time police arrived, he’d left the scene and they were unable to locate the guy. Officers too information for a report.
Under The Influence
- Just before 5 am, a caller reported a man lying on the sidewalk outside the Subway on Gallia street. An officer took the man into custody.
- At 3:48 pm, a reportedly intoxicated woman hit a sign and took out a fence at Gallia and Webster. She then attempted to flee the scene. Officers notified OSP.
- Officers were called to a local healthcare facility after an employee found drugs. They impounded the drugs and took them to the station for destruction.
- Just before 5:30 pm, a caller reported a woman with purple hair shooting up drugs outside the laundromat on 17th Street. Police caught up with her at the Woodbine Apartments. She didn’t appear to be high but officers advised her of the complaint.
Asleep at the Wheel
- Police checked out a report of a man sleeping in a vehicle behind the Dash Thru on Gallia at 8:18 am. It turned out the man was a Door Dash driver grabbing a nap between runs.
- At 9 am, police spoke to a woman who was sleeping in a vehicle at Spartan Stadium. She told police she was homeless and had no place else to sleep.
- Officers responded to a report a man passed out in a red truck at the Woodbine Apartments. They took him into custody.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
- A 24th Street man contacted police to report $1000 missing from his bank account. He said the money was used at an airport in New York. Police took information for a report.
- The Quick Stop contacted police at 4 pm to report that an employee stole $2900 from the store.
- A 2nd Street caller reported someone broke into her vehicle at 4:30 pm.
Dead Body Reported In Tunnel
Shortly before noon, a woman told police that a homeless man on the corner of 12th and Gay reported to her that he’d discovered a dead body in the tunnel under the railroad tracks near 28th Street.
Police could not locate the homeless man, but they did check the tunnel. No body was discovered.
Crappy Teen Gives Laxative To Little Kids
An angry Thomas Avenue grandpa contacted police at 8:16 pm to report that a 13-year-old boy gave a laxative to his 5-year-old grandson and another 7-year-old boy to drink.
He told police he was taking the kids to the hospital to get checked and wanted to advise officers.
