Heartbreak and Tragedy: Child Falls Victim to Gunfire
Tragedy struck a Portsmouth family today after a child was killed by gun violence.
In the early evening hours, at 4:49 pm, 911 dispatchers delivered devastating news to police, fire, and EMS. A child had been shot in the 1500 block of 9th Street.
The response was swift. Indeed, they found a deceased child who appeared to have been shot.
In the immediate response, it was unclear whether the child had shot himself/herself or whether someone else had shot him/her.
Reports indicate that multiple shell casings may have been found in the room.
An adult female from the residence was taken for preliminary questioning regarding the incident.
Despite not being released officially, a possible suspect has been named.
Officers obtained consent to search a home on Franklin Ave exactly one hour after the first call rang out.
Blockades remain in place. It is still very early in the investigation.
