Homeless Campers Cause Problems For Local Business

A local business is having issues getting some homeless campers to leave their property.

Just after 3 am, officers responded to a burglar alarm at Jack Fish & Sons on Gallia Street. Officers discovered a broken window and a footprint on the door. Officers checked the building and found no one inside.

When the owner arrived, he explained that several homeless people were camping behind the business on his property. He had given them a week to pack their stuff and leave.

Police went out back to talk to the campers and discovered that two of them had open warrants. They told a third man to leave.

Officers arrested Erica Stidham on warrants for theft and telecommunication fraud. This was her 10th time in the Scioto County Jail. They took another man into custody for open warrants but determined he needed medical attention. An officer took him to SOMC, where he was admitted for treatment.

Homeless Person Moves Into Basement

Officers responded to 21st Street after the manager of an apartment building reported that a homeless woman had attempted to move into the residence’s basement. By the time police arrived, the woman had left the premises, but the manager made it clear that she did not have permission to be there.

Another family contacted police to report that a homeless man with a shack in the area keeps coming to their door and harassing a Harding Avenue family.

Officers located his shack near the Little Scioto, but the man was not there.

Homeless Set Up Camp at Washington Street Business

Just after 11 pm, a caller contacted the police to report an issue with homeless folks setting up tents next to a business on Washington Street. They also said the people were looking into the building.

When police investigated, they discovered a woman with an open warrant and took her into custody. Officers explained to the woman that she could not be on the property without permission.
