Homeless Crisis Keeps Police Busy Over Weekend

Just after 12:30 am on Friday, officers responded to a report of a woman in a car on the lot at Speedway who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When officers spoke to the woman, they determined she was not intoxicated, however, she had nowhere to stay and planned to sleep in her vehicle on the lot that evening.

A 6th Street caller reported that people were staying in a vacant garage down the Street. She said they were all high and they had scattered needles all over the place. The people left before the officers arrived. Police tried to resecure the garage.

Police responded to a report of a man and woman attempting to live in a tiny outbuilding behind the Sinclair Realty Office on 5th Street. Police spoke to them, and they left the area.

Officers caught up with two people living inside a vacant home on Gallia Street. They warned the man to leave the area and not return. The woman had an open warrant, so officers booked her and then let her go.
