Officers investigated several incidents related to the city’s homeless population, including an incident where shots were fired at rats at a homeless camp.
Just after 3 am, Taco Bell employees reported a man with a backpack passed out by the trashcans in the back of the store When officers arrived, they discovered the man was sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the store. They advised him to move along.
Around 7 am, employees of Speedway said a man with a backpack opened up a container of milk and drank it without paying. When officers arrived on the scene, they took the man into custody and served him with a no-trespass order. Police booked him into the Scioto County Jail.
Callers reported a homeless man standing on the corner on 11th Street whom they said was aggressively yelling at passersby asking for money. Police spoke to the man and told him to calm down.
Around 4 am, a passerby flagged down a cop to say people from the homeless camp near 9th Street were shooting off a gun. When officers investigated, they explained they were shooting at rats.
At 1 am, callers reported a man lying face down, wrapped in a blanket, in the Dollar General parking lot. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the woman was sleeping. They sent her on her way.
A caller spotted a man lying on the sidewalk on 11th Street around 2 pm. However, when officers spoke to him, he claimed he was just getting a tan.
