SCDN was the first to bring you the preliminary details of the serious crash on Friday evening.
Members of the Washinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Scioto County Sheriff’s office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a serious head on collision.
There was one person entrapped, according to a fire department member who arrived in their own vehicle.
A section of US 52 was temporarily closed as emergency crews worked the scene.
The official report from the OSP explains the tragic details.
Dustin Gordon, 33, of Stout, Ohio, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet S10 southwest on US-52 when it crossed the center line and struck Leah Blevins, 35, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, operating a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado traveling northeast on US-52 at approximately 6:50 pm.
A total of four people were transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center by Portsmouth Ambulance.
Dustin Gordon, the driver of the Chevrolet S10, was transferred to Cabell Huntington Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. The report from OSP did not indicate that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
