How to Effectively Control Weeds

When the weather heats up, so does the battle against weeds. These pesky plants can quickly take over gardens and lawns if left unchecked. This battle wages deep into the fall as “Indian Summer” or “Second Summer” arrives in November each year.

To help keep your outdoor spaces looking their best, here are some tips for controlling weeds this summer.

1. Mulch: Adding a layer of mulch around your plants can help prevent weeds from taking root. Mulch also helps retain moisture and keeps the soil cool.

 2. Pull weeds early: The earlier you can catch weeds, the easier they are to pull. Try to remove them before they have a chance to spread their seeds.

3. Use a hoe: A hoe can be an effective tool for cutting down weeds, especially in larger areas. Be sure to use it when the soil is dry, as wet soil can make it harder to cut through weeds.

4. Use herbicides: If you have a large weed problem, herbicides can be an effective solution. Always follow the directions carefully and use them sparingly to avoid harming other plants. Pro Tip: Using white vinegar with a touch of dish soap is pet-safe and extremely effective.

5. Maintain a healthy lawn: A healthy lawn can help prevent weeds from taking root. Keep your lawn well-watered and fertilized, and mow it regularly to help prevent weeds from growing.

With these tips, you can keep weeds at bay and enjoy a beautiful outdoor space.
