Jack Andrews

Jack Andrews passed away Wednesday, September 26, having just turned 89 on September 15, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada (nee Barnett) Andrews Willis and Raymond Andrews, brother Ray Andrews, and son-in-law Mark Lemont.

He is survived by daughters Cinda Lemont and Sue Moore (Bill), son Skip Andrews (Julie), grandchildren Sarah Schuette (Mike), Jessica Oberlin (Matt), Lauren Moore,Alex Lemont (Hannah), Denver Lemont (Emily), and Zac Moore (Bailey),greatgrandchildren Avery, Lydia, Cole, Rowan, Mae, Eliza and Hazel, as well as dear friends, the Ciraso family.

Jack learned much about life during his humble childhood. He and his brother and mother lived on the margins in the village of Friendship, Ohio. For years, they lived in a converted chicken house, surviving by the grace and charity of others who understood their situation. He never forgot this generosity and frequently reflected on how, as an adult, he had everything he could want. He was one to count blessings and didn’t desire or value material possessions.

Jack recounted the story of his friend Tom Reiser stopping by his house on his way to college and asking if he wanted to join him. He jumped in and four years later earned a teaching degree at Wilmington College. He taught for 30 years at Washington-Nile Local Schools.

Papaw’s greatest joys were his family, time spent on the Ohio River, playing cards, and the Reds (not necessarily in that order during baseball season). He happily attended most of his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities. Among his most treasured keepsakes were files full of programs from these events. His appreciation of the beauty of the Ohio Valley, love of water skiing, sarcasm, ‘Jackisms,’ and citing Seinfeld quips all help to define him. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024  from 11:00 to 12 Noon. Funeral Service will be immediately following at 12 Noon all at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, Ohio.
