Jerrie Ann Sutherland, 84, of Portsmouth, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, surrounded by family at her home. She was born on May 13, 1940, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Samuel Albert and Mary Jane Main Jackson, Jr.
A devoted full-time mom and homemaker, Jerrie Ann was a protestant and member of the former Portsmouth Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine.
In 1965, she married Robert Garland ‘Joe’ Sutherland in Portsmouth, and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2007.
Surviving are her five children, Kim (Pat) Proulx of Columbia Falls, MT, Kathy (Jimmy) Arthur of Washington, NC, Sam Sutherland, Michael (Jamie) Sutherland and Jeremy Sutherland, all of Portsmouth; a special cousin who was like a sister to her, Shirley Davidson of Cincinnati; 13 grandchildren, Kristy Stienecker, Nikki (Dell) Peterson, Travis Jackson, Bo (Kristi) Arthur, Shannon (Billy) Standridge, Joey Sutherland, Santana (Kaleb) Dingus, Julia (Dylan) Clanin, Ryan Sutherland, Sheridan Sutherland, Austin Hendrickson, Abigail Halcomb and Dylan Sutherland; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Rosie.
Jerrie Ann was also preceded in death by one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Chad Benner officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
