John F. “Bene” Johnley IV, 65, of Wheelersburg, died Thursday, September 26, 2024. He was born January 2, 1959 in Portsmouth, to the late John F. and Cecilia (Virgin) Johnley III.
John was known as a “jack of all trades”. There was no home or car maintenance he couldn’t do and if he didn’t know he would find out often reading home and car maintenance books for pleasure. He was always quick to help others whether it be laying hardwood floors, plumbing, electrical, and most recently deck installation. Through his years of life, he gained knowledge and skills by working as a prison guard at Orient Correctional Facility and working many years at Orkin.
He was retired from the local Plumbers and Pipefitters out of Portsmouth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine (Kathy) Johnley and infant Christa Johnley. John is survived by his siblings, Sue Preston (Tony) of Portsmouth, Mary Stiverson (John) of West Portsmouth, and Tim Johnley (Keira) of Canal Winchester, his neices and nephews, Tony Preston, Nicole Preston, Jacob Stiverson (Misty), Noah Stiverson (Alicia), Matthew Stiverson, Kristin Stiverson, Caroline Taylor (Nathan), Paul Johnley, and Madison Gierke (Seth). He is also survived by 11 great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 7, 2024 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. A visitation for friends and family will be on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service at 1:00 P.M.
