John Frederick Hammond, 96, of South Shore, KY, passed away at his home under hospice care on Saturday, August 29, 2026. He was born in Fullerton, KY, on September 5, 1929, the son of the late Edgar and Gertrude Nichols Hammond.
Fred attended Eastern State University. He was a teacher, owner of South Shore Electric, a retired Greenup Transportation Foreman, a member of the South Shore First Baptist Church, and a member of the Alben Barkley Democratic Club.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Bly Fannin Hammond; two brothers, William Hammond and Paul E. Hammond; and one half-sister, Louise Foster.
Left behind to cherish his memory are one daughter, Mary Margaret (David) Biggs; four grandchildren, Alison N. Snyder, John T. (Barb) Biggs, Julia L. Biggs, and Wendy L. (Rob) Riffe; nine great-grandchildren, Jack Biggs, David Biggs, Matthew (Lexy) Riffe, Zoey Collier, Zeke Snyder, Addie Snyder, Elia Snyder, Asher Snyder and Phin Snyder; two great-great-grandchildren and chosen family Deloris & John Bentley.
A private graveside service was held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at MT Zion Cemetery in South Shore, KY, with Mark Lilly officiating. Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY, cared for arrangements.
