First responders pulled a victim from the Ohio River and a woman claimed a man offered drugs to her child. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Poice Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
- Just before 8 am, The McDonald’s on Gallia reported a man in a red hoodie harassing people in the drive-thru. Employees said he refused to leave the property. By the time police arrived, he had left.
- At 2:46 pm, officers responded to Thomas Avenue for a report of a woman running out of the woods and then going into a shed. The caller feared she may have overdosed. Police took the woman into custody.
- A Campbell Street caller reported multiple people hanging around the home of a man who was currently in jail just before 4 pm. The people said they live in the home with the jailed man, who is their brother.
- Just after 7 pm, Giovanni’s on 11th Street reported a man causing a disturbance inside the building. They attempted to trespass on the man but he began to scream at employees. He left before the police arrived.
Hey, That’s My Stuff!
- An identity theft victim came to PPD headquarters to report someone had opened a bank account in her name and then proceeded to overdraw it. She’s now unable to open a new account due to the overdrawn balance.
- A 3rd Street caller contacted police shortly before 5 pm to report a gun taken from her home. She believed her ex-boyfriend took her Ruger after they broke up. Police advised her it was a civil matter.
Under The Influence
- PMHA maintenance reported an unresponsive man sleeping in a shed. By the time police arrived, the man had left.
- At 11:32 am, a caller reported finding clothing and a bag from a local rehab scattered around Mound Park. The caller feared there could be drugs in the clothing. Police could not locate the items.
- A caller reported an intoxicated man running in the road on the Scioto Trail at 1:18 pm. Police could not locate the man.
- Police responded to an overdose on Offnere Street at 5:20 pm. Officers arrested the person involved and impounded their car.
Sex Offender Busted
Four police units responded to 6th Street at 9:31 am. Officers arrested a man who had failed to register as a sex offender and took him into custody on two other warrants.
Put Down The Phone, Kid
At 10:40 am, officers dealt with a little boy who wouldn’t stop calling 911. He was advised to stop it.
The child was back at it calling 911 at noon. Officers advised his mom that if she keeps letting the kids call 911, she’ll be charged.
Police then sent the kids inside and advised the woman about an open warrant. The woman said she already knew about it.
Mom Says Pair Offered Her Child Drugs
A Robinson Avenue Mom contacted police just before 5 pm to report that a man offered her child drugs at a nearby home.
The man and a female companion agreed to let police search for drugs and officers found nothing. Offices discovered the two had open warrants but they were out of pick-up range.
The pair requested a ride to the closest gas station and officers dropped them off at the Valero.
Jumper Rescued From Ohio River
Just after 5 pm, police responded to a report of a woman attempting to jump off the Grant Bridge.
She leaped into the Ohio River and first responders dispatched a boat to rescue her. The fire department pulled her from the river and police assisted.
An air ambulance transported the woman to Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Directly To Jail
While on foot patrol on Wayne Avenue, an officer discovered an individual with an open warrant from New Boston. Police took the woman into custody at 11 pm and booked her, then brought her back home.
Fifteen minutes later, a foot patrol officer took a man into custody and impounded his vehicle.
