Knife-Wielding Weirdo Menaces 3rd Street Residents

Police responded to reports of a man with a knife hiding in the bushes on 3rd Street and a woman is ripped off at the Dollar Tree. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Wrong Direction

Officers pulled over a suspicious vehicle in the 700 block of 11th Street shortly after midnight. The officer said the woman wasn’t intoxicated. 

She was new to the area and had missed her turn and ended up driving in the wrong direction. The officer helped her get back on the right road.

But Officer, That Pole Hit Me

Police responded to a traffic crash in the parking lot at Gatti’s Pizza. A truck hit a pole in the middle of the parking lot. 

The driver told police he didn’t see the pole in the middle of the parking lot. 

Suspicious Activity

Just after 8 am, a caller reported a woman sleeping in the vestibule of PNC Bank on Gallia Street. An officer advised her to move along.

Under the Influence

EMS and Police responded to a bleeding man lying on a 5th Street Sidewalk at 10:45 am. Officers said the apparently intoxicated man had fallen and hit his head. 

EMS transported him to SOMC. 

Man With Knife Spotted on 3rd Street

Just after 4:30 pm, a caller reported a man in a Lakers jersey walking with a knife on 34d Street. 

An officer spoke to the man and advised him to put his pocket knife away and not wave it around. 

Officers were called back to 3rd Street at 6 pm, for a report of a man with a knife hiding behind a bush. Police once again warned the man, he would be headed to jail if he didn’t stay on his porch and stop bothering people. 

$700 Phone Stolen at the Dollar Tree

A thief at the 5th Street Dollar Tree made off with something worth way more than a dollar just before 7 pm. 

A woman told officers that she put her $700 iPhone down while checking out and someone stole it. Police took information for a report.
