A late-night brawl disturbed neighbors’ sleep on Offnere and a repeat offender was angry her radar detector let her down. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chiefs Daily Briefing.
Late Night Brawl On Offnere
Officers received two separate calls about a fight on 6th Street just after 1 am. The first caller reported two men and a woman screaming and fighting at 6th and Offnere. The caller said one person was on a bicycle.
The second caller reported the action happening at 5th and Offnere and said two people were beating each other with bats.
An officer spotted three people in an alley between 4th and Fifth near Brown and caught up with a man on a bike. They warned him about proper bicycle equipment.
Multiple units checked the area but did not locate any injured parties.
Intoxicated Man Tries Late Night Break-In
Just after 3:30 am, a caller reported a man beating on the door of her Kinney Street apartment. She also said the man was trying to get in. He left before the police arrived.
However, half an hour later, he returned to her back patio. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered an intoxicated man who had no idea where he was.
They figured out who he was from his ID and transported him home to his mother’s house on Poplar. She said she’d keep an eye on him.
Cry for Help
A worried friend contacted officers at 6 am to report that a woman had threatened to harm herself.
Police spoke to the troubled woman and arranged for an ambulance to transport her to the hospital.
Woman Angry Her Radar Detector Let Her Down
Officers stopped a woman driving 58 mph in a 35 mph zone on Gay Street at 6:37 am.
Police said the woman was pretty upset her radar detector did not alert her to the laser speed gun officers used to clock her.
PPD officers explained the differences in the devices and explained to the woman that since she’d had prior traffic convictions within the past year, she would be charged with a misdemeanor and face a mandatory court appearance.
Freaking Out at the Fish Bowl
Officers responded to the Fish Bowl Bar just before 8 am after a woman called 911 and said she needed police assistance.
Dispatch said the woman was freaking out and they couldn’t understand what she was saying. An officer responded to the bar and took the extremely intoxicated woman home to her mother.
Police cautioned her that if she went out again in that state, they’d arrest her for public intoxication.
