With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Laura Ruth McCoy, a cherished member of the Portsmouth community, who peacefully departed this world on October 27, 2024. Born on July 30, 1945, in her beloved hometown of Portsmouth, OH, Laura was a beacon of kindness and grace to all who knew her.

Laura’s radiant spirit and unwavering faith illuminated the pews of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she found solace and community through her unwavering devotion. As a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #424, she exemplified values of fellowship and service, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.

In a beautiful union, Laura married her eternal love, John McCoy, on April 24, 1993, and they reveled in thirteen years of joy and companionship until his unexpected passing. With a heart full of love and devotion, Laura upheld the memory of John with grace and dignity.

In her role as a payroll processor at the hospital, Laura found purpose in her profession, providing steadfast support and diligence to her colleagues and community. Her commitment to her work mirrored her commitment to those she held dear, embodying integrity and compassion in all endeavors.

Laura’s memory will endure in the hearts of her surviving cherished cousins, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her loving parents, James and Lydia, and her dear husband, John, along with her brothers, David and Richard Seeley.

A celebration of Laura’s life and legacy will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024, visiting time will be 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a service immediately following at 1:00 PM, all at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662.

We will gather to honor her memory, share stories of her kindness, and find solace in the beauty of her spirit.

Interment will follow in Memorial Burial Park, Wheelersburg, OH.

Pastor Richard Phillips will be officiating.
