Lawana Faye Mullins, 86, of Portsmouth

Lawana Faye Mullins, 86, of Portsmouth, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021, at her home surrounded by family. She was born March 3, 1935, in Portsmouth to the late Raymond Albert and Irminda “Mindy” Boggs Gibbs.

A longtime member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and Trinity before that, she was very active in the church, having been an integral part of Celebrate Recovery at the onset. She had also been a Meals on Wheels volunteer and she enjoyed gardening and decorating. Lawana most enjoyed spending time with her beloved family.

She retired from Southern Ohio Medical Center where she had worked in medical records and she had previously worked at McGinnis’ Portsmouth Docking. She attended school with the PHS Class of 1953 and was proud to have received her diploma with the Class of 1975.

On July 18, 1953, she married Kenneth Eugene “Gene” Cox in Richmond, IN and he preceded her in death March 18, 1981. She married her second husband, Charles David “Dink” Mullins, in Portsmouth in September, 1988 and he preceded her in death February 12, 2018.

Surviving is her son, Kenneth “Kenny” E. Cox Jr. of Portsmouth; two daughters, Karen S. (Floyd) Netter of Chillicothe and Connie L. (David L.) McGraw of Canal Winchester; two stepsons, David Dwane (Christie Marie) Mullins of Portsmouth and Mark Edward (Rebecca Lynn) Mullins of Sciotoville; two sisters, Dolores Timberlake of Portsmouth and Emma Jane; eight grandchildren, Amy (Chelsea Wright) Bolles, Chelsey (Caleb Leach) Bolles, Jared (Amy) McGraw, Evanne (Brandon) Hippler, Kalyn McGraw, Christian McGraw, Nathan (Leann) Mullins and Zackory (Elizabeth) Mullins; and eight great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jackson Barrows, Rylee, Jacob and Jase McGraw, Gabriel and Dawson Hippler and Madeline Mullins.

Lawana was also preceded in death by three siblings, Raymond Gibbs, Kenneth Gibbs and Janet Case; and Dink’s son, Scot Mullins.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Greg Carter officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour Wednesday.
