Leroy R. Easter, 97 of Friendship, died Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at SOMC Hospice. He was born August 30, 1926, in Buena Vista, to the late Ernest William and Lorena Hazelbaker Easter.
Leroy was a United States Navy WWII veteran. He was a retired Carpenter and a member of Carpenters Local # 437, he was also a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Rome Masonic Lodge, and James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
Along with his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by a grandson Bobby Gilley, 2 brothers: Robert and Donald Easter, son-in-law, Gaylord Gilley and daughter-in-law, Vicki Easter..
Leroy is survived by his wife of 76 years Nora Ellen Perry Easter whom he married on November 26, 1947, 2 sons: Dale (Carol) Easter and Rick (Kathy) Easter, a daughter Cheryl Gilley (Dave) Kirk, 2 grandchildren; Becky (Dave) Melick and Loren (Melissa) Easter, a granddaughter in law, Andrea Gilley, 8 great-grandchildren: Savannah, Noah, Levi, Lorann, Courtney, Dylan, Cole and Maddie.
The family would like to thank SOMC Hospice for their wonderful care of Leroy.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Pastor Gary Hopkins officiating. Interment will be in McKendree Cemetery with military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday starting at 12:00 PM.
