A Detroit radio station urged Lions Football fans to visit the birthplace of their team in Portsmouth, Ohio
The station put the spotlight on Spartan Memorial Stadium and detailed how just a few years ago, the historic structure was in danger of demolition.
As Portsmouth history buffs and NFL fans know, Spartan Stadium hosted the first evening game in NFL history back in 1930. (The Spartans beat the Brooklyn Dodgers).
The Spartans moved to Detroit just four years later and became the Lions. Of course, the stadium is now home to another team called the Spartans, the Ports City Spartans minor league football team.
The station praised the historic look of this architectural treasure nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians.
Oftentimes it’s easy to overlook wonders in our own backyard, but seeing the stadium against a backdrop of our beautiful hills, we get a look at the very best both man and nature have to offer.
