Local Company Says Commissioners Breached Their Records

Shocking claims today from a Portsmouth company. The CEO of Appalachian Marketing claims that Scioto County Commissioners accessed their secure business records without the company’s knowledge or permission.

According to CEO Audrey Schiesser, the breach happened back on November 4. In a public notice posted on the company’s Facebook page, Scheisser wrote: The extent of this breach, and the consequences, are unknown at this time. We will keep you apprised of any further details or litigation.”

Scheisser said the company sincerely apologized for the breach. Appalachian Marketing offers a variety of marketing service including social media management and website development.

The company was founded by Scheisser while she was still attending Shawnee State University in 2020 and, according to posts on their Facebook, secured a contract with the Scioto County Commissioners that same year to develop their website. According to the Commisioners, that work was completed in October of 2020.

The company made numerous posts of Commission events throughout 2021.  However, back in April of this year, a Pickerington, Ohio-based company called Intellinet Tech LLC announced that Scioto County was its newest client.

In Scheisser’s post, she claimed that the company was also responsible for the breach of her company’s private records.

Additionally, Scheisser’s husband, Ryan, made a social media post claiming that he had been wrongfully terminated as a county employee by the commissioners. Scheisser worked as a Loss Prevention & Safety Manager for the county.

The Commissioners went into executive session at Thursday’s meeting to discuss terminating a county employee for what they called, “insubordination, violation of county policies, and misuse of county property.”

Commissioners voted 2 to 1 to terminate the employee.
