Drunk, Armed & on a Lawn Mower: Lucasville Man Arrested After Wild Claim

police car from the back seat

It wasn’t your typical 11 a.m. call when Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies rolled up to Back Street in Lucasville. A man told dispatchers his neighbor had shown up at his house in a panic, claiming someone was hiding in the woods waiting to kill him.

But when deputies arrived, the story took a strange—and dangerous—turn.

Armed and Intoxicated

The neighbor, later identified as Kevin Porter, wasn’t just rattled. Deputies say he was intoxicated and carrying both a shotgun and an air rifle. Even stranger—he had driven his lawn mower over to make the report.

🚔 Deputies secured the scene and quickly seized the loaded weapons.

🚜 The man’s lawn mower was left in the care of a more sober neighbor.

👮 Porter was taken into custody without incident.

⚖️ The Charges

Porter was arrested on a charge of using weapons while intoxicated. Deputies made it clear he was not charged with mowing under the influence, though the image of a tipsy lawn mower ride with firearms in tow left locals shaking their heads.

📅 Porter appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court shortly after his arrest.

⛓️ He was released on his own recognizance, pending trial.

🏛️ His next court date is set for September 16.

⚠️ Why It Matters

Mixing alcohol and firearms is a dangerous combination—and when paired with paranoia and a ride on a lawn mower, it’s a recipe for trouble. Deputies say the quick response prevented what could have been a much more serious situation.

👉 Bottom line: A Lucasville man’s bizarre claims of a killer in the woods ended with an arrest, two seized weapons, and one unforgettable police report. For now, the lawn mower is safe—but Kevin Porter will have to face a judge next month.
