Lucasville man ‘saved by the belt’

A Lucasville man is lucky to be alive and Ohio State troopers from the Chillicothe post helped him celebrate by presenting him with a certificate to welcome him into Ohio’s ‘Saved by the Belt’ club.

Back in August, Anthony M. Simpson of Lucasville was in a crash on Route 32 in Pike County. Thanks to his use of a seat belt he avoided being seriously injured or killed. Lieutenant Timothy J. Karwatske presented him with a special certificate.

The Ohio State Patrol says that over the past two years, more than 1,300 people have in crashes in Ohio as a result of failing to wear their seat belt.

Ohio requires drivers, front-seat passengers, and all children 8 to wear seatbelts. (Younger children are required to be in safety seats.) According to recent studies around 85% of Ohioans follow the State’s seat belt laws. In 2018, 121,019 people in Ohio were convicted for failing to wear a seatbelt. According to the CDC, wearing a seat belt reduces your chance of dying in a crash by 45%.
