A Scioto County grand jury has indicted a Lucasville mother and her live-in boyfriend on seven child endangering counts each in a case involving serious alleged injuries to a child, including two black eyes, a skull fracture, bleeding around the brain, a broken collarbone, a fractured foot bone, and what court records describe as non-accidental bruising.
Kimberly Smith, 29, of Lucasville, was indicted on seven counts of endangering children.
Darien Logan, 28, of Lucasville, was also indicted on seven counts of endangering children.
According to court records, Smith is the biological mother of the child named in the indictment, and Logan is listed as the mother’s live-in significant other.
The indictment alleges the offenses happened between July 1, 2025, and Sept. 16, 2025, in Scioto County.
The first count alleges Smith and Logan created a substantial risk to the health or safety of a child by violating a duty of care, protection, or support.
The remaining counts allege abuse of a child under 18 that resulted in serious physical harm.
In plain language, the indictment alleges the child suffered multiple serious injuries, including:
- Bilateral black eyes, meaning bruising around both eyes
- An occipital fracture, meaning a fracture to the bone at the back of the skull
- A subdural hematoma, meaning bleeding between the brain and its outer covering
