Officers caught two burglars in the act after a tip from a good neighbor and checked out reports of death threats on Campbell Avenue. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Assault Arrest
Just after 3 am, officers responded to a report of an assault on 5th Street. They took a male suspect into custody and took him to jail.
Police then dropped a woman off at Speedway.
Meanwhile at Speedway
Just after 4 am, Speedway employees contacted officers to report that a man had refused to leave the bathroom. A few minutes later, they called back and said he had finally left.
Parking Crackdown
Just after 7:30 am, officers investigated three illegally parked vehicles blocking traffic at Sohners Land and Mabert Road. Officers impounded the vehicle and arranged for them to be towed.
A few minutes later, police discovered that vehicles were blocking the road on Wayne Avenue and preventing the school bus from getting through. An officer spoke to the owner of one of the vehicles who agreed to move it.
Unwanted Campers
Officers responded to Jack Fish & Sons for a report of individuals who had set up a tent and were living on the property.
Police advised the homeless man and woman to leave the property.
Campbell Avenue Death Threats
Just after 1 pm, officers responded to a report of a woman in a hoodie walking between houses and yelling that she was going to kill everyone.
Another caller reported the same woman had attempted to break into a home. Officers detained the woman, but also said that code enforcement needed to take a look at the house.
There were extension cords running from the house to the garage, junk motor vehicles, lots of trash, a burn pit, and way too many dogs.
Officers arrested the woman for disorderly conduct
Under the Influence
Police responded to a report of an overdose on Mabert Road at 1:52 pm. The woman was alert by the time officers arrived.
At 6 pm, officers and medics responded to a report of an overdose in the park at Wayne and Kendall Avenues.
False Alarms
Police responded to three false alarms in half an hour. The first was at Jack Fish & Sons on Gallia. Police found the property secure.
Just 18 minutes later, an alarm sounded at Gateway Church. However, everything appeared secure. Ten minutes after that, the alarm went off at Livingston & Company.
Once again, everything appeared secure.
Mabert Road Burglars Caught in the Act
A good neighbor contacted a Mabert Road resident who was out of town to tip him off someone was in his home.
When officers arrived at the home just after 10 pm, they found the back door open and two people inside the home.
Police took a man and woman into custody.
