Man admits guilt in Texas to Ohio heroin distribution ring
An Ohio man pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court last week for his part in a ring that brought heroin from Texas to sell in Ohio.
Court documents say Gene Talley, 48, would travel to Texas to get controlled substances, including heroin, and then bring them back to Southern Ohio to sell. Talley also arranged for other people to take large sums of money to Texas, collect drugs, and then bring the drugs back to Ohio to sell.
Officials say this ring started operating back in 2007. That was the same year that drug overdoses became the leading cause of death in the State of Ohio.
All did not go smoothly for Talley and his drug mules. On three separate occasions, law enforcement seized the money intended to purchase the drugs. Approximately $99,000 was seized by Austin Texas Police in 2012, Chicago Police seized $230,000 in June of 2015, and Winfield, Texas police got their hands on $240,000
Talley pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin and he’s looking at a sentence between 60 to 150 months in prison.
Four other people who took part in the ring have also pleaded guilty. Brianna Reid, Adriauna Smith, Syreeta Scruggs, and Kenneth Patterson are all scheduled to be sentenced the week of May 18.
