Man Arrested After Woman & Teen Assaulted

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

A Portsmouth man is facing domestic violence charges after police say a family dispute escalated into allegations that both a woman and a teenager were assaulted.

Portsmouth officers were called to Oakland Avenue after receiving a report that an intoxicated man had assaulted a woman and struck a child inside the home.

According to dispatch information, the caller also reported the man had been making threats.

🚔 SUSPECT LEAVES BEFORE POLICE ARRIVE

Before officers reached the scene, they were told the suspect had left in a black Dodge Ram.

Police quickly located the vehicle near the westbound U.S. 52 overpass and conducted a traffic stop.

Officers detained the driver without incident.

🚓 VEHICLE TOWED, MAN JAILED

After taking the man into custody, officers completed an inventory of the vehicle and arranged for it to be towed from the scene.

Police arrested Stephen Jones and booked him into the Scioto County Jail on a charge of domestic violence.

⚖️ PROTECTION ORDER ISSUED

Jones later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court.

Court records show a domestic violence protection order was issued as part of the case.

He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to return to court on August 10.

🏠 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND TEENS

While domestic violence cases often focus on disputes between adults, Ohio law also provides protections when children or teenagers are alleged victims of violence within a household.

The allegations in this case remain pending, and Jones is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
