Man Calls Ambulance Over Broken Air Conditioner

Despite warning from Scioto County officials not to call for EMS services for anything other than a medical emergency, the message doesn’t quite seem to be sinking in.

We told you last week that no ambulance was available for an elderly man suffering a gall bladder attack and his family was forced to take him to the hospital themselves.

On Monday night, just before 12:30 am, EMS responded to a call from a 71-year-old West Portsmouth man. However, the man refused medical attention. EMS personnel reported that the man just wanted his air conditioner fixed.

At the same time, another patient experienced a cardiac incident on Big Bear Creek Road. First responders on the scene requested additional personnel, but no one was available immediately. Dispatch had to send out a second alert 10 minutes later, and a few minutes later, another squad was able to respond.

At 1:14 am, EMS personnel responded to a Madison Township home to assist a woman who had fallen. She didn’t need to go to the hospital, she just wanted a hand getting up.
