Man Charged with Strangling Pregnant Woman

A caller contacted 911 at 10 pm after they said a man in a blue hoodie had a pregnant woman in a chokehold at 17th Street and Grandview Avenue.  

The officer headed to the scene and took a man into custody.

Officers booked Alejandro Perez into the Scioto County Jail on charges of domestic violence and strangulation.  

In Ohio, strangulation has been made a felony offense since the state’s new strangulation law took effect in 2023. The term “strangulation” refers to any act that impedes the normal breathing or circulation of blood by applying pressure to the throat or neck or by covering the mouth and nose.
