Man Shot In Back in McDermott – Woman, 2 Men Arrested

Deputies arrested a McDermott woman and 2 men after a man was shot in the back on Enley Road.

Around 4 pm on Thursday, a call came into 911 reporting a person shot on Enley Road in McDermott. 

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office dispatched deputies and detectives to the scene. When they arrived at the scene, they found an injured man on the ground and a good Samaritan offering first aid. A witness told officers the shooters fled the scene in a maroon Ford pickup truck.

The victim told officers, he was shot in the 300 block of Enley while running away and officers noted apparent bullet wounds on his back. An air ambulance transported him to Cabell Huntington hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Three Suspects Arrested

 

Detective located one suspect, Jason Hammond, in the 300 block of Enley and found the Ford truck hidden in the woods near a camper in the 400 block of Henry Cooper Road in McDermott. Detectives discovered the truck had been reported stolen from Ross County. 

Officers discovered Jon Roberts and Destiny Evans inside the camper. Both suspects were transported to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Detective obtained a warrant and searched the camper. They uncovered a SCCY CPx-2 9mm pistol hidden underneath a sink cabinet. Officers impounded the pistol and other evidence at the scene. 

Law enforcement charged Jon Roberts, 34, of Otway with felonious assault and receiving stolen property. Destiny Evans, 37, of McDermott was charged with complicity to felonious assault, and 42-year-old Jason Hammond of McDermott was charged with complicity to felonious assault. 

All three will face a judge in Portsmouth Municipal Court. Sheriff David Thoroughman said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury.
