Portsmouth Police helped rescue animals left behind at an abandoned house and a domestic violence suspect was Tased after he ran from officers. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Welfare Check
A worried daughter asked the police to check in on her father as she hadn’t been able to reach him for days. Police discovered he was transported to SOMC earlier in the day.
Purse Stolen From Truck at Eagles
A woman contacted police to report that someone stole her purse from a truck parked at the Eagles on Gallia. She went in at 4 pm and the purse was gone when she came out at 10 pm.
There was no visible damage to the truck. Officers couldn’t view surveillance footage from the building until later.
Overdose Victim Turns Combative
Just after 11:30 pm, officers were called to Grant Street when a man overdosed. The victim was transported to SOMC.
The man became verbally and physically combative and SOMC security was called in to assist.
Man Tased After Running From Police
A woman contacted officers at 5:25 am to report a man had assaulted her mother at a Coles Blvd. home. When police arrived on the scene, the man had left.
However, he returned an hour and a half later and ran off when from police when they arrived. An officer caught up with him and deployed a Taser to get him under control.
He was arrested and taken to SOMC for treatment. He refused treatment and was instead booked and taken to jail.
Animals Rescued from Abandoned House
At 9:33 am, police responded to a report of people inside an abandoned home on Center Street. Neighbors complained the people had left dogs inside the home that barked constantly and were not cared for.
Officers discovered an open door and several animals inside. Animal Control took the animals from the home and Portsmouth Code Enforcement came out to condemn the house.
