Officers responded to a report of a woman thrown from a vehicle and some dangerous kite flying. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Man Throws Woman Out of Vehicle
Just before 11 pm, police responded to a report that a man threw a woman out of a vehicle and then made her get back in before leaving the scene.
Police located the vehicle at a carwash. The woman’s sister told police the woman was being abused by her boyfriend.
The woman refused to discuss the situation and refused to leave the man.
Fight at the Party Time Bar
Police responded to a report of a large fight at the Party Time Bar at 11:22 pm. They spoke to a man who claimed he did not start the fight but had just been defending himself.
No one involved wanted to press charges. Officers arranged for the man’s mother to pick him up.
Under the Influence
At 11:57 pm, police answered a call for an overdose on Mound Street. The caller said the man was not breathing. The victim refused treatment.
Knife and Bat Fight
Police responded to a report of a man and woman arguing on 8th Street at 2:23 pm. The man said the woman had a knife and the woman claimed the man had a ball bat.
Neither party wanted to press charges.
Suspicious Activity
- Just after 7 am, callers reported a woman pushing a shopping cart screaming and talking to herself on Court Street. Police found a woman with a dog who said she was just taking a rest. She asked officers to contact her brother and told them she had an upcoming mental health appointment.
- Just before 5 pm, a caller reported a shirtless man acting strangely at Little Caesar’s Pizza on Gallia. Officers checked Save a Lot, Aldi’s, and Speedway, but could not locate the man.
- A Grant Street caller reported someone shooting a gun near the Mound Park shelter area. The subject was gone by the time police arrived.
Not A Fun Uncle
A Coolidge Avenue caller contacted police to report their uncle busted out the window of their parked vehicle and left the scene in a white Equinox.
Police took information for a report and said they would keep an eye out for the suspect’s vehicle.
Don’t Go Fly A Kite
An AEP employee called police at 2:21 pm to report someone flying a kite in Tracy Park. The AEP worker was afraid the kite might get stuck in powerlines and electrocute the kite flyer.
Police spoke to the man and advised him of the concern.
Counterfeit Money
Police answered a call to the Marathon on the Scioto Trail for a report of counterfeit money. A man passed a fake $100 bill, then gathered up his stuff and took off northbound on his bike.
Police took information for a report.
Driver Taken To Hospital After Accident
Just before 5:30 pm, a vehicle hit a pole at Gallia and Offnere. AEP responded to the scene to take care of the poll and an ambulance transported the driver to the hospital.
The city blocked the street for 2 hours while the scene was cleaned up.
