Portsmouth Police searched for a menacing man with a gun after an employee of the Salvation Army told them that someone in the food line told them someone had a gun and fired a shot. The armed man was supposed to be wearing camo and hanging around Alexandria House.
The officer searched the area but could not locate anyone matching the description.
However, an hour later, the employee called back to say the man with the gun was hanging around their building. He was described as strawberry blond with tattoos. He allegedly said he was looking for his girlfriend and ran behind Alexandria House.
Officers caught up with the man, who said he was trying to contact his former girlfriend, who was seeing another man while he was doing laundry at the Salvation Army. He said he’d come to Alexandria House to look for a friend.
Officers checked the man for open warrants and then advised him to stay out of the apartment building and away from his former girlfriend.
