Manhunt in Rarden

Derick Fonville

Officers conducted a manhunt in Rarden after deputies investigated a complaint called in by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Adams County dispatch said they received a 9-1-1 call about a man slumped over in the front seat of a blue Dodge with the back window busted out near Rarden Park

A member of the Rarden Fire Department said the man was unresponsive but breathing, but Rarden didn’t have an EMS squad available.

A member of the Otway Fire Department contacted dispatch a few minutes later to say the man was awake and had walked away from the scene.

A deputy spotted the man behind the Marathon gas station a few minutes later running toward Rarden.

Another deputy caught up with the man hiding in some bushes next to a telephone booth. Officers took the man into custody and learned he had an open warrant.

Officers requested Portsmouth Ambulance send a squad to check on the man’s health and arranged to have his vehicle towed.

Deputies booked Derick Fonville into the Scioto County Jail on a charge of failure to appear.
