Margaret Mae Prose

Margaret Mae Prose, 94, of Portsmouth formally of McDermott passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.  She was born on May 8, 1927, in Otway to the late Joseph Koenig and Dixie Case Koenig.  On November 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to Charles Julius Prose who preceded her in death on October 25, 2019.

Surviving is her son; John Prose of Portsmouth; grandson, Aaron (Nancy) Prose of Portsmouth; daughter in law, Debbie Prose of Portsmouth and sister, Edith Montavon of Portsmouth.

Margaret was preceded in death by two sons; Charles William Prose and Gary Steven Prose; grandsons Andy Prose and Infant Boy; her siblings, Michael and Mildred (Liston) Koenig, Stella and Charles Eichenlaub, Henry and Zela (Scott) Koenig, Joseph Jr and Louise (Fritz) Koenig, James and Zora (Thompson) Koenig, Herbert and Ruth (O’Hara) Koenig, Clyde and Louise (Knauff) and Edith (Combs) Koenig and Emma and Joseph Dettwiller; brother in law, Lawrence Montavon; and a daughter in law, Rita Prose.

Margaret “Marg” will be especially remembered as a cherished wife, loving mother to Bill, Gary and John and as a family member who enjoyed sharing stories, talking about flowers and birds and “always finding something funny to say.”

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 12:00 P.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Pond Creek in West Portsmouth, Ohio with Father Patrick Watikha, Celebrant.  Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.  Friends may call at Holy Trinity Catholic Church from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service.

Following the burial, a special reception with refreshments will be held at Hill View.  All family and friends are welcome to attend.  In Margaret’s memory, her family asks you to please consider contributing to Hill View’s Eden Fund, which enhances the living environment of the retirement community, a place Margaret came to call home during her final years.  Special thanks to all of Hill View residents and staff who took such wonderful care of her.
