Melinda Sue (Lewis) Conkel

Melinda Sue (Lewis) Conkel, 76, passed away February 13, 2023 at SOMC.  She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio January 11, 1947, a daughter of the late Othel and Dorothy (Snyder) Lewis.  

Susie as known to her family, was a LPN and worked at the old Hempstead Manor Nursing Home and Portsmouth Health and Rehabilitation.  She was a 1964 graduate of Glenwood High School, a graduate of Portsmouth Interstate Business College and Ashland Community College where she got her Associate of Nursing.  

Susie was a member of the Lucasville Eastern Star, and was a past Worthy Matron from the Portsmouth Eastern Star.  Melinda was a member of the First Church of God in New Boston.  She taught Sunday school and VBS for many years.  Susie was a huge sports fan.  She loved the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and The Ohio State Buckeyes.  She was an avid racing fan and loved her #8.  Her favorite teams would be East High Tartans and player #77, and Minford Pee Wee 6th grade team #42.

She is survived by her sister, Tylitha Seth of New Boston; a daughter Jodi Conkel (Rob); a granddaughter, Miranda (Johnny) Webb of Minford; grandchildren, Jeremy (Bailey), Hayden, and Abigail Conkel all of Sciotoville; great grandchildren, Harleigh and Miles Webb of Minford; She had a special niece, Vicki and nephews, Tom and Jason all of New Boston; she had two great nephews; one great niece; and three great great nieces; a daughter in law, Lisa Conkel.  Her granddaughter Miranda and great nephew Adam followed in her footsteps becoming a nurse.  Her and Adam even worked together on occasion.  Melinda also preceded in death by a son Ronald Conkel Jr. in 2015.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Pastor Chris Keeton officiating.  Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park. Friends may call Friday, February 17, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.  Online condolences may be left at DWSwickFuneralHome.com
