Officers suspect meth use was behind a bizarre incident that landed two Wheelersburg area parents behind bars on child endangerment and weapons charges after a Wednesday night shooting.
Just after 10:30 pm, deputies responded to a report of multiple shots fired in the area of Lang Slocum Road in Wheelersburg.
Shortly after that, Dispatch took another call from a caller who said someone had just shot through their residence. The caller said her sister and brother-in-law had been shooting guns since 10 pm.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they secured the area and ordered the residents to exit their trailer. When the mother and her juvenile son came out the front door, officers saw the boy had a gun. They ordered the boy to drop the weapon, and he complied. Both individuals told police someone was shooting into their home.
The father came out the back door with a rifle in hand. Officers said he either fell or dove from the doorway and lost control of the rifle. He also claimed that someone was shooting at the family.
Officers said all three members of the family were agitated and heavily perspiring. The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office said it received a tip that the adults had been using meth.
When deputies searched the home, they seized 27 firearms, including a grenade launcher as well as four containers of ammunition. Deputies say two homes were shot up during the incident.
Deputies arrested 45-year-old Shannon Bond and charged him with shooting into a home and endangering children. Trista Bond, 39, was charged with endangering children and furnishing a firearm to a minor.
Shannon Bond has been arrested three previous times on charges of driving under the influence. This was Trista Bonds’s first arrest.
Officers contacted CPS to conduct an investigation, and both parents were booked into the Scioto County Jail.
After an appearance in court, Trista Bond was released by the court on a $1,000 bond, while Shannon Bond’s bail was set at $51,000.
