Midnight Fight Call: Social Media Feud Brings Juvenile Brawl to Portsmouth Streets

A late-night disturbance on Sixth Street turned into a juvenile fight that police say started on social media and spilled into the street, drawing multiple 911 calls and eventually involving parents and school officials.

The first call came in around 12:30 a.m., reporting a group of females yelling and fighting, with one reportedly threatening to shoot someone.

Minutes later, a second caller reported multiple females yelling in the street, though the caller said they had not heard anything about a weapon and could not provide descriptions.

third call soon followed reporting girls arguing at Sixth and Broadway.

👊 Fight Arranged Online

When officers arrived, they learned the situation involved juveniles who had invited other juveniles over to fight after messages were sent over social media.

Police said the teens did end up in a physical altercation, but the fight was eventually broken up. Officers reported pepper spray was used during the confrontation, though no one requested medical attention.

Parents of the juveniles were contacted and warned that contributing to delinquency and assault charges could be possible if the behavior continues.

Police also said the school resource officer at the students’ school will be notified, since the dispute began at school and is expected to carry over into the school environment.

🚗 Trouble Continued Later in the Day

The conflict didn’t end there.

Around 6:44 p.m., officers received another call related to the same group. A man reported that individuals connected to the overnight fight had been driving by his home throughout the day honking their horn.

He said during the most recent pass, the group stopped in the road and someone threatened to fight a female at the home and bring another older male back to beat up the caller.

The caller said he did not have video evidence but described the vehicle as a black four-door car with a sticker on the windshield.

⚠️ Police Advice: Consider a Protection Order

Officers advised the caller about the option of seeking a protection order and told him to contact police if the individuals return or the situation escalates.

Police say incidents like this are becoming increasingly common, where arguments that start online quickly escalate into real-world confrontations involving groups of teenagers.

Authorities encourage parents to monitor social media activity and remind teens that organizing fights online can quickly lead to criminal charges and school discipline.
