Missing Girl’s Family Asks for Help

Whitney Hatfield

The family of a teen who went missing from South Salem, Ohio, is asking the public for help. The family of 16-year-old Whitney Hatfield says she’s not overly talkative but will give a friendly wave to a stranger. She’s not been involved in drugs, fighting, or sneaking out.

Her Mom told SCDN, “She has been struggling with wanting a different life. She is always seeking companionship and usually with males of the older variety. That in and of itself presents risks. And it is one that I have combated with her for a couple of years.”

South Salem is a very small town near Greenfield, Ohio. The population is just 219.

They say Whitney is new to the area and has just moved back to Ross County with her grandmother, but she hasn’t had a chance to make new friends. The last sighting of the young woman was on Main Street in South Salem back on March 7th around 1:30 pm.

She’s described as 5’3”, 130 lbs, with dark hair and dark eyes. The family says that K9 tracking by local law enforcement indicates she was picked up in a vehicle, and for now, searches of the area have been suspended.

Anyone with information about Whitney’s disappearance can call the Ross County Sheriff’s Office at 740-773-1185.
