Deputies were first called after a man reported discovering seven firearms missing from a safe at his elderly mother’s home. According to the report, the man told deputies he had gone to the residence after learning guns may have been taken from the safe located there. When he arrived, he allegedly discovered seven firearms missing. He told deputies he believed his son — who lives with the elderly woman — was responsible. The man also expressed concerns about his mother’s declining mental condition, telling deputies she did not seem to fully comprehend what was happening. After gathering the remaining firearms from the home, he left the property. But according to the report… the situation was only getting started. Confrontation in the Driveway The man told deputies he later encountered his son driving nearby and turned around to confront him. Both vehicles reportedly ended up back at the residence. According to the father’s statement: he approached the truck to talk couldn’t see inside because of dark tinted windows and the son then stepped out armed with a black 9mm pistol equipped with a laser sight The father claimed the son repeatedly threatened to shoot him if he did not leave. He also alleged the gun was pointed directly at him. Then came the gunshot. According to the report, the father said his son fired one round into the air while continuing to threaten him. The father claimed his elderly mother physically stepped between them trying to separate the pair. Then Came a Completely Different Version When deputies later interviewed the son, they got a very different story. According to his statement: he claimed his father had aggressively followed him accused him of swerving toward his vehicle on the roadway and said the confrontation escalated after his father allegedly yanked on his truck door and screamed at him to get out The son admitted pulling a gun. But he claimed he did so because he feared the situation was about to turn physical. According to the report, he told deputies he fired a single “warning shot” into the air because his father would not leave the property. He also denied stealing any of the missing firearms. Deputies later recovered a shell casing near the truck where the son said the shot had been fired. Photographs of the scene were collected, and the casing was taken into evidence.
