Missing Kids Found Safe After Cell Phone Ping Sparks Multi-County Search

A search involving two sheriff's offices, two police departments, and a trail of cell phone pings ended with two missing juveniles safely located in Lawrence County. The search began after authorities in Pike County reported that two missing juveniles had disappeared in their grandmother's vehicle. Investigators initially tracked one juvenile's cell phone to a location in Lawrence County, where deputies searched but were unable to locate the vehicle or the missing teens. A short time later, Pike County investigators received an updated phone ping showing the pair had apparently moved. This time, the signal pointed toward Ironton. A Lawrence County deputy immediately began searching the area and soon located the cream-colored 2018 Lincoln parked near Etna Park. Both missing juveniles were found sitting inside the vehicle. The deputy ordered both juveniles out of the car while an Ironton police officer arrived to assist. The teens were placed in separate patrol vehicles while dispatch confirmed they were the two missing juveniles being sought by Pike County authorities. Once their identities were verified, Pike County deputies were notified that the pair had been found safe. Authorities also requested that the vehicle, which belonged to the juveniles' grandmother, be impounded until it could be reclaimed. The Lincoln was towed to the Ironton Police Department's impound lot. A Pike County deputy later arrived in Lawrence County and took custody of both juveniles. According to the report, one juvenile was transported to the Ross County Juvenile Detention Center in Chillicothe, while unruly charges were being filed against the second juvenile. The grandmother was advised she could retrieve her vehicle from the impound lot later that day.
