We told you earlier about a man who’d gone missing after leaving a local rehab facility. His family had called Portsmouth Police for help, but officers weren’t able to take a missing person report. It turned out the family lived three hours away, and they couldn’t file a report over the phone. Officers informed them they’d have to come to Portsmouth and make the report in person.
One of our readers called officers, thinking she might have found the missing guy. She told police a man had been staying in a burnt-out garage near 7th and Lincoln Streets, and she’d seen him on multiple occasions.
The officer checked for a missing person report and noted the man was not listed as a missing person because his family hadn’t made the six-hour round trip to Portsmouth to report him missing. The officer said they didn’t have enough information about the man to see if he’d been reported missing anywhere else.
The woman called back at 7:30 pm to report the man was at the burnt-out building and that she felt unsafe with him in the area. Police searched the area but could not locate him.
