A man was convinced someone stole $100 from his wallet.
Then deputies started adding things up.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a South Point residence after a man claimed money had been stolen from him by a home health aide.
The man told deputies he believed $100 had disappeared from his wallet after a caregiver assisted him earlier in the week.
He explained that he originally had nearly $700 in cash but later discovered only $590 remained.
Deputies reviewed a bank statement showing he had withdrawn $700 several days earlier. During the conversation, the man also acknowledged spending approximately $100 on cigarettes after withdrawing the cash.
Deputies pointed out that spending $100 from the original $700 would leave roughly the amount he still had.
The man then reportedly stated he wasn’t completely sure but still believed money had gone missing.
As deputies were leaving, another caregiver told them the man had previously accused someone else of stealing money — only for the missing cash to later turn up inside his truck.
The incident was documented, but deputies noted the situation appeared to involve confusion over where the money had gone.
