Mitchell Collins, 72 of Lucasville passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, at SOMC. Born April 20, 1949, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Foster and Virgie Collins, was a Correction Officer at SOCF for 34 years, attended Wakefield Free Will Baptist Church, and was a US Army Vietnam veteran. Mitchell loved his family, church family but was ready to go to his long home.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Folden Collins; one son, Adam (Lindsey) Collins; one daughter, Cheryl (Scott) Long; seven grandchildren, Wyatt Collins, Abby Collins, Zane Collins, Vance Collins, Bradyn Long, Addison Long, Emmy Long. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Julius Collins, Garfield Collins, Duke Collins; two sisters, Alene Shook, Dorothy Collins, and his father and mother-in-law, James and Betty Barnett.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Brother Lowell King officiating. The burial will be at Salisbury Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363. The family requests that masks be worn.
