A Franklin Furnace mom is behind bars after a two-month investigation by the Scioto County Special Victim’s Unit.
Back in late February, personnel from Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office to report an injured 16-month-old Scioto County baby had been brought into the hospital. Medical personnel suspected the injuries were linked to child abuse.
The Sheriff’s Office sent a detective to the hospital to collect evidence and interview hospital staff and the child’s mother, Heather Mollett.
Detective Sgt. Jodi Conkle and the Scioto County Special Victim’s Unit worked on the case with Scioto County Children Services, and it was submitted to the Scioto Grand Jury on April 22.
The grand jury chose to indict Heather Mollett, 33, for five counts of endangering children, and two counts of felonious assault. Deputies arrested Mollett, and she’s currently in the Scioto County Jail, without bail, pending a court appearance.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman says the investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges could be filed. Anyone with information should contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
