Mom Found Dead In Center Street Home
A mom was found dead in a Center Street home leaving both a child and an elderly woman in danger. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Behavior
- At 1:17 am, an Argonne Road caller thought she heard gunshots and arguing. Police were unable to locate anything suspicious.
- Thirty minutes later, they investigated a report of someone in Tracy Park. Police advised the person of park hours and they left without incident.
- At 3:30 am, a front desk employee at the Holiday Inn advised police of a suspicious individual loitering around the dumpster. Police could not locate the person.
- At 10:36 pm, a Grandview Avenue caller reported a man knocking on his back door and talking to himself. Police discovered the man had an open warrant. They took him into custody.
Under The Influence
- First responders answered a call for a report outside of the 17th Street Homeless Shelter at 7:23 am.
- At 1:04 pm, a caller reported a man tweaking on drugs in the alley behind Center Street. Police made contact with the man who appeared to be coming down from some type of high. He refused medical treatment.
- Just before 5 pm, a Robinson Avenue caller reported individuals smoking dope from a glass pipe in an alley behind Robinson Avenue. Officers searched the vehicle and took both people into custody before they had the car towed.
- At 5:05 pm, Giovanni’s on 11th Street reported a diner left a bag in a booth containing drugs. Officers impounded the drugs for destruction.
- A resident of the 16th Street apartments reported someone using drugs in the laundry room at 11:37 pm. When police arrived, they discovered a man with open warrants from the New Boston Police Department. Police took the man into custody.
Gamer In Distress
A gamer contacted police just before 8 pm to report that a Portsmouth Man made a threat to harm himself while they two were playing a game on Xbox.
No one answered the door at his residence. Police were unable to make contact.
Too Many Yard Sales
A caller complained about an ongoing yard sale at a Charles Street home.
Officers stopped by the home at 10:24 am to speak to the resident. He didn’t have a permit and said he was unaware he needed one.
He told officers he would contact his council representative to complain about the permit requirement.
Sexual Assaults
- A Kent Street resident told police she was walking to her apartment around noon when a man approached and offered her drugs. When she threatened to call the police he threatened to sexually assault her. Police took information for a report.
- In a separate incident, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office relayed a call to PPD from a Findlay Street Resident who said someone staying in her apartment raped her.
Mom Found Dead In Center Street Home
Just before 2:30 pm, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive woman on the floor of a Center Street home.
EMS personnel found the woman in full code and was unable to revive her. There was a child in her care, so police called CPS who made contact with the child’s father who was able to take custody.
An older woman living in the home was transported to SOMC by ambulance and Adult Protective Service said they would make arrangements for her care.
The coroner transported the deceased to Montgomery County for an Autopsy.
Woman Fleecing Elderly Dementia Patient
At 3:27 pm, the caretaker of an elderly dementia patient reported a woman was taking money from the 88-year-old 4th Street man.
He is unsure who the woman is, but she has been frequenting the home and taking advantage of the man. The caretaker asked for assistance to identify the woman.
Child in Danger
At 8:34 pm, a caller contacted police to report a child being abused by his father’s former girlfriend. Police contacted CPS.
CPS made an agreement with the father to turn the child over to its grandmother. The grandmother’s boyfriend picked up the boy.
